FIU faculty members have been among The Wolfsonian’s most important partners since the museum joined the University in 1997. Faculty members have guest-curated exhibitions, contributed to publications, participated in public programs, taught courses at the museum, and conducted their own research using museum resources. A three-year grant that the museum received from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in 2009, has enabled it to deepen use of the collection by FIU faculty for their teaching goals.

Support for Teaching
The Wolfsonian offers extraordinary resources for teaching and learning, including classroom space, tours for classes, and support for the development of course curricula that engage the museum’s collection.
Facilities: Three spaces at The Wolfsonian—a classroom, conference room, and auditorium—may be available for regular use by FIU courses. Other facilities, including the rare books library and reception spaces, are available for special purposes.
Tours: The Wolfsonian can arrange specialized guided tours of the galleries given advance notice of two weeks. Faculty members may also bring classes for self-guided tours; please notify the Academic Programs department in advance if your group will be larger than ten persons, so that we can facilitate the experience. To register for a visit, complete The Wolfsonian Group Tour Request Form for Higher Education.
Curriculum development: Wolfsonian staff members are happy to consult with faculty members about how resources in the museum’s collection may be used to support teaching in classes in any discipline.
Teaching gallery: The Frost Art Museum has generously offered gallery space for temporary installations of objects from The Wolfsonian’s collection, to be used as resources for FIU courses.
Support for Research
The Wolfsonian supports scholarly research on its collection by FIU faculty members. Information about the museum’s holdings and about procedures for gaining access to the collection for research purposes can be found in the RESEARCH/LIBRARY section of this website.
Working Group on Visual and Material Culture
The Working Group on Visual and Material Culture is a group of museum staff members and FIU faculty who meet periodically to discuss matters of mutual interest. Meetings usually include a gallery tour and discussion of a common reading.
