MIAMI BEACH, FL (NOVEMBER 27, 2006)-The Wolfsonian–Florida International University presents a site-specific installation by artist Kenneth Andrew Mroczek. Mroczek will transform The Wolfsonian’s Bridge Tender’s House, fronting the museum’s Washington Avenue façade, into a citrus fair display, inviting the audience to participate in a celebration of organic citrus. The installation promises to conjure a vibrant and interactive environment, where the audience can enjoy the fruits of organic agriculture, while learning more about the ecology of the growing process. Periodically, volunteers will hand out whole organic citrus fruits to passersby on Washington Avenue.

The installation, which will be constructed of mixed media: citrus fruits, vinyl, wood, and paper, opens December 5, 2006, and will be on view through March 1, 2007.

Mroczek’s short, silent film, Oranges, Greens, Yellows & Pinks, will be screened at The Dynamo on December 8. The film was made in Florida citrus grove during a collaboration with Alyse Emdur. The Wasting of a Wetland, produced by Daniel Elias, also will be shown.

Kenneth Andrew Mroczek was born in 1981 in the Pacific Northwest. His work has been exhibited at New York’s Christine Burgin Gallery, Daniel Reich Gallery, and the Wrong Gallery; InSitu Fabrienne Leclerc, Paris; and Domaine de Kerguehennec, centre d’art contemporain, in Bignan, France.

The hexagonal stainless-steel Bridge Tender’s House, built in 1939 to serve Miami’s 27th Avenue bridge, was saved from demolition in the late 1980s.
